cinogenic, antibiotic, antihypercholesterolemic, antihyperglycemic, antihypertensive, and antiinflammatory actions. In addition, we have demonstrated that green tea and such constituents as fiavonol glycosides, theanine and soluble dietary fiber had a protective effect against D-galactosamine (GalN)-induced liver injury in rats,3'6) We have also found that lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced liver inj ury, one of the most frequently applied liver injury models, was effectively suppressed by green tea in GalN-sensitized rats, and that this effect of green tea could mainly be attributable to caffeine (unpublished results). The latter finding suggests the possibility that cafieinecontaining beverages might generally protect animals from LPS-induced liver injury, and that the potency of the effect of a beverage might be dependent on the

Green Tea Attenuates Experimental Hepatitis in Context of Oxidative Stress
Article history: Received on: 12/05/2013 Revised on: 19/10/2013 Accepted on: 07/12/2013 Available online: 31/12/2013 Food derived antioxidants have a strong potential for long term use as chemo-preventive agents in disease states involving oxidative stress such as tea. This study was done to clarify the potential effect of green tea extract in protecting the liver from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-...

Dietary supplementation with powder of a green tea extract suppressed the enhancement of plasma alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase activities induced by D-galactosamine, but not by carbon tetrachloride, in a dose-dependent manner in rats. The minimum dose to cause a significant effect was 1 to 2%. Drinking green tea also suppressed plasma enzyme activities. These results in...
متن کاملThymoquinone restores liver fibrosis and improves oxidative stress status in a lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation model in rats
Objective: Liver fibrosis is the primary sign of chronic liver injury induced by various causes. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the major ingredient of Nigella sativa with several beneficial effects on the body. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of TQ on liver fibrosis in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in male rats. Materials and methods: Fifty male Wistar rats wer...
متن کاملRole of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-induced hepatic injury in D-galactosamine-sensitized mice as an experimental endotoxic shock model.
The role of nitric oxide (NO) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced hepatic injury was studied in D-galactosamine (D-GalN)-sensitized mice. The inducible isoform of NO synthase (iNOS) was immunohistochemically detected on hepatocytes around blood vessels in livers of mice injected with D-GalN and LPS not on hepatocytes in mice injected with D-GalN or LPS alone, although mRNA for iNOS was found in...

This study was conducted to assess the preventive effect of aqueous extract of Berberis integerrima Bge. root (AEBIR) on liver damage and oxidative stress induced by diabetes mellitus in rats. Forty male rats were divided into 5 groups as follows: 1- normal (N); 2- normal + barberry (N+B) (they received barberry root extract for 6 weeks); 3- diabetic (D) (they received Streptozotocin (STZ), 65 ...
